On My Mind Monday: Playdates for Mom

A few weeks ago, Shannon wrote a post on balance and how living a balanced life helps to minimize stress. I read this article today called, “For Stressed Moms: 6 Steps to Finding Better Balance,” and thought it was worth sharing. I like how the author says that “Everyone needs playdates,” meaning that even moms need time to do things that aren’t necessarily centered on their children. When I had my first daughter, I was with her almost all of the time and rarely did anything for myself. I did work away from home about 30 hours a week, but that was more for necessity than personal fulfillment. After having my second daughter, […]

On My Mind Monday: He Loves You

I often feel that I was born with an overly tender heart. When I know or hear of other’s experiencing tough things, I literally feel my heart aching and a heaviness in my chest. It weighs on my mind for so long and I feel a fervent need to help them, even though in most circumstances there is little that I can do. This heart of mine has been bombarded lately with the trials and hardships of several people who I know and love. I want so badly to be able to take away their pain, right their wrong, fix what has been broken, or restore what has been lost. But I can’t. When life […]

On My Mind Monday: Balance

Can I just say how thankful I am for this beautiful sister-in-law of mine? Actually, I truly scored with all of my in-laws and since we live far away from all of them, I love any opportunity we get to be together. As I mentioned last week, Katherine and her family were in town this weekend and we stayed up way too late Saturday night hanging out together. It was so fun to just sit and talk and laugh… we will both probably pay for that late night for the next few days but it was totally worth it! Our conversations that night have left me thinking a lot about balance. We hear that […]

Hugs From Holly

My cousin’s family recently lost their three-year-old girl through a tragic accident. We attended her funeral last Saturday, and while there was much grief and sadness, there was also a lot of hope and love. Her birthday was on May 3, this coming Wednesday. To honor her and help spread love and joy, they have created Hugs From Holly Day. Here’s what it’s all about: “Join us this Wednesday, May 3, as we honor and celebrate #hugsfromhollyday. Holly was known to give the best hugs, and her love for everyone and everything in life was contagious. Let’s spread this joy as we scatter sunshine in Holly’s honor on her birthday. Here’s how YOU […]

On My Mind Monday: Foster Sibling Love

fostering sibling relationships

I have been thinking a lot about family relationships lately; particularly sibling relationships. I am the middle child of three kids. My sister is three years older and my brother is 5 years younger. I’m sure we did not get along all the time, but for some reason I can only remember always loving being with my siblings. My sister was my idol. I wanted to do everything she did and she was nice enough to let me tag along a lot of the time. Perhaps it was her example of a good big sister that created a desire in me to be a good big sister myself to my little brother. I […]

On My Mind Monday: Inspiring Creativity

When I think of someone who is creative, I think of someone who sews, crafts, paints, or draws. I am not one of those people. My sewing skills are limited to button replacements, my enjoyment of most crafts is minimal, and my artistic skills peaked in 2nd grade when I had my painting displayed in a local mall. My creativity comes in other ways like writing and dancing and singing. That being said, I have recently felt creatively stagnant. I’ve been lacking inspiration in the areas where I am normally most creative. As I’ve been thinking about ways to be more inspired, I’ve noticed a few main things that have been hindering my creativity. Routines: I am […]

On My Mind Monday: My Richter Scale

Something many people may not know about me is that I have tremors. They are called Essential Tremors to be exact, although I feel like they are far from “essential.”;) It is not really a life threatening disease, just more of a nuisance. My tremors are mostly in my hands and sometimes my voice and they effect me when I am making deliberate movement. Activities such as playing the piano, putting on make-up, writing on a whiteboard, and singing or talking in public can sometimes be difficult when my tremors are really bad. Like most people, my emotions and physical well-being play a big role in my shakes. If I am nervous, over-tired, sick, upset, […]

On My Mind Monday: Seattle

I hope you all had a nice weekend! We spent the last several days visiting Devin’s family in Washington. His youngest sister had a baby girl a few weeks ago, so we snuggled that little one as much as we could. And although the sun had shined in Seattle only nine days since October (!!!), we actually saw sunshine two and a half of the five days we were there! I like to think we brought the sun with us. 🙂 Here are a few snapshots from our time in the Pacific Northwest. Now we are flying back home to the sunshine, hoping that the 70’s and 80’s stick around for at least another month! […]

On My Mind Monday: Spring Break

Spring break

I can’t even tell you how much I have been looking forward to this week! No school, no sports, no scouts, and no lessons. An entire week that we get to spend as a family for spring break! I have always loved spring break. Growing up my family usually went to California for a few days over the break. My dad is from El Centro, California and my grandpa owned a river ranch there.  We would always spend a couple days riding quads and motorcycles, shooting guns, climbing haystacks, driving tractors and playing games at the ranch. March was always our favorite time of year to go to the ranch because of the […]

On My Mind Monday: Currently

Devin's Birthday

I’ve had a lot of random things going on lately and several different things on my mind. Since I couldn’t consolidate my thoughts into one cohesive topic, I decided I’d give you a few snippets of the goings-on in a “Currently” post. So here is what I’m up to, currently: Watching: March Madness – I love college basketball. When we lived in Utah, part of my work at BYU was as a tutor and mentor to the Men’s Basketball team. Sadly, they didn’t make the NCAA tournament this year, but we still have all the games on and are faithfully checking our brackets.  (We also just finished the first season of Victoria. I enjoyed it but not nearly as […]
