On My Monday Monday: House Projects

We bought our home about 2 1/2 years ago and within hours of closing, the house looked like the picture above! We had high ambitions for our new little house and although we were not exactly sure what we were doing, we jumped right in. The first year in our home was filled with projects such as tearing out part of a wall, painting the kitchen cabinets, and creating some custom built-ins. It was exhausting doing most of these things ourselves with young kids but oh was it worth it! Here are a couple of before and after pics of some of our work… I’m sure any homeowner will agree that the list of […]

To keep or not to keep: Tips to help you clean out and organize your closet

I don’t know about you, but for some reason the post holiday season really puts me in the mood to clean out and organize. This past weekend was a rainy one in southern California and I put those dreary days to good use with some serious organizing. One of my biggest accomplishments was my bedroom closet. It was a combined effort with my husband and the aftermath is still on my guest bed waiting to receive its final destination. Eek! A total mess right? Hopefully I can find time to get this all gone in a day or two, but with all of THAT removed, look how nice and tidy our closet looks now! Cleaning out […]

Organizing and Displaying Legos

One of the perks of your kids getting older is less toy storage right? Well, while there are less big bulky items to store, I have discovered that as my children grow older, the toy storage problem has actually just evolved, not disappeared as I had hoped it would. One of the toys I struggle to keep contained and organized the most is Legos. My boys love to build Legos and then proudly display them for all to see. If my oldest had his way, our home would be a well thought out museum of all his creations. Sadly for him, I am not that cool of a mom, so let me share with you some of […]

They play hard outside as much as possible, use as little effort in the bathroom as possible, and may possibly wear holes in our carpet before they ever run out of energy. It has taken me a little while, but I have learned that there are five things I must have if I am going to be able to survive raising these little boys. Lysol Wipes on top of the toilet- How many times have you gone in to use the bathroom and sat down in…Ahh! Gross! It is a real struggle to keep up the bathroom […]

Keeping a Tidy House with Young Kids

A dear friend of mine once told me this quote from Phyllis Diller: “Cleaning the house while your kids are still growing is like shoveling the sidewalk before it stops snowing.”  I’m pretty sure every mother can attest to the truth of that statement!  Yet, while it is exceptionally difficult to keep a clean house with young children, having a tidy house can actually be accomplished. Because my level of sanity typically mirrors the appearance of my house, keeping an orderly home ranks high on my priority list. Please take note that this does not mean my house is ready to pass a white glove test.  It is still snowing on my sidewalks. […]
