Easy Slow Cooker Recipes for Easy Dinners on those Not so Easy Days

slow cooker meals

We are in the midst of baseball season at our house. I love watching my boys play baseball and hanging out with my kids and fellow baseball families at the ball park nearly every day of the week. But, I do not love the struggle I have with a real dinner during this busy season! I know you can all relate. When life gets busy the first thing to often go is home cooking. There are few things I appreciate more during chaotic times of life than a crock pot. It is the most beautiful thing! I walk in the door with starving (and usually grumpy) kids and viola! Dinner is ready, tummies are filled […]

On My Mind Monday: Spring Break

Spring break

I can’t even tell you how much I have been looking forward to this week! No school, no sports, no scouts, and no lessons. An entire week that we get to spend as a family for spring break! I have always loved spring break. Growing up my family usually went to California for a few days over the break. My dad is from El Centro, California and my grandpa owned a river ranch there.  We would always spend a couple days riding quads and motorcycles, shooting guns, climbing haystacks, driving tractors and playing games at the ranch. March was always our favorite time of year to go to the ranch because of the […]

How I Calm My Mind When Panic Arises

How to calm an anxious mind

Back in November, I posted about my struggle with anxiety. At the time I wrote the post, I was in a really good place mentally, which made it easier to share. Lately, I’ve had a bit of a relapse with anxiety, and it has been more difficult for me to manage. I haven’t had a full-blown panic attack in quite a while, but there have been a few times recently that I’ve felt one threatening to come. Thankfully, I’ve been able to prevent them by using certain techniques. I wanted to share them in hope that someone else might find them helpful. Don’t panic: This sounds silly, I realize, but I literally used […]

On My Mind Monday: Currently

Devin's Birthday

I’ve had a lot of random things going on lately and several different things on my mind. Since I couldn’t consolidate my thoughts into one cohesive topic, I decided I’d give you a few snippets of the goings-on in a “Currently” post. So here is what I’m up to, currently: Watching: March Madness – I love college basketball. When we lived in Utah, part of my work at BYU was as a tutor and mentor to the Men’s Basketball team. Sadly, they didn’t make the NCAA tournament this year, but we still have all the games on and are faithfully checking our brackets.  (We also just finished the first season of Victoria. I enjoyed it but not nearly as […]

On My Mind Monday: Our Mental Pathways…

footstep

Last Friday night I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a women’s conference in Temecula with Calee Reed as the featured speaker. She was truly amazing! Her voice, her stories, her spirit… the entire night was so awesome. One of the quotes she shared with us that night was the quote at the top of this post. What kind of thoughts are we allowing pathways in our minds for? If we truly desire to think and act in a certain way, how do we increase the foot traffic in our minds to forge those needed pathways? Sometimes I feel like there are a million voices in the world trying to forge my mental pathways […]

Baby-Led Weaning: The Solution to Picky Eating?

Baby Led Weaning

My baby has been a big eater from the day she was born. She nursed every hour and a half for the first 2 months of her life. But around 4 months, the doctor noticed she hadn’t gained much weight since age two months (which I attribute to her sleeping through the night and not having nighttime feedings) and suggested we supplement with baby cereal. We did that, she loved it, and she put on a few pounds. When we started her on other foods, though, we did a modified version of Baby-led Weaning. Have you heard of it? Simply stated, it is the idea that babies can eat regular “adult” food and […]
